Introduction

The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced is one of the most prestigious engineering entrance exams in India. It serves as a gateway for admission to the top engineering institutes, including the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). JEE mains serves as a gateway to National Institute of Technology(NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology(IIITs), Government funded technical institutions  (GFTIs) and other engineering colleges. It also serves as an eligibility criterion to write JEE advanced.

Exam Pattern

JEE Advanced consist of two compulsory papers, Paper 1 and Paper 2. Both papers conducted on the same day, with a duration of three hours each.

There are questions on different patterns such as integer type, multiple correct, single correct, matrix match and paragraph type. There is negative marking also and one cannot predict the exact pattern as it changes every year .The best thing that makes this exam more tough is that you get to know the exact pattern on the day of exam itself. The questions are from Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics aimed for evaluating students problem-solving skills , critical thinking and practical applications. These 6 hrs are very critical and teaches peace of mind and time management also.

Syllabus and eligibility

The syllabus for JEE Advanced is based on the topics covered in both 11th and 12th. It includes questions from Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. One should visit the official website for comprehensive details about the syllabus.

To be eligible to write the exam one must clear JEE mains. Every year National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts JEE Mains two sessions and the best of two is taken as the criterion for eligibility. After the exam a particular cutoff is declared to be eligible for JEE advanced. The students should also maintain 75% marks in 12th boards, though the 75% criterion is under controversies let's see what happens in future.

Rising Competition

Every year around 11 lakh students write JEE mains out of which only 2.5 lakh students get the opportunity to give JEE advanced. Thus the competition to get into IITs, NITs GFTIs is increasing day by day and especially for computer science branch. Even one mark matters here, so one must be careful and attempt carefully.

Preparation Strategies

The exam requires consistency, discipline, strong will power, patience  and proper time management. There will be times when everything will seem tough and you would feel to give up but remember that journey is more important that result. You will surely enjoy this journey. Here are some strategies that will help one to excel the exam.

1. Understand the Syllabus: Analyze the syllabus deeply and focus more on high weightage topics.

2. Conceptual Clarity: Conceptual clarity is the key. Focus on basics first and do not directly jump to advanced level. Understand the logic behind things and try to relate with real life. Do not focus on cramming as it would be a waste of time. JEE Advanced tries to mix multiple concepts together so if you know the basics it will be a cakewalk for you.

3.Practice, practice and practice: Practicing questions is the key. Never think that once you get everything about a particular chapter by reading notes then you will practice, this is the biggest blunder that leads to backlogs. If you cannot recall the concept while solving refer to notes. Practicing more helps to apply the concept properly. Start from solving assignments or DPPs(daily practice problem) and then solve either coaching modules or JEE related books. You will definitely find some questions difficult but don't give up. After sufficient trials you may take help from teachers.

4. Previous year questions: once you get the basic grip on a chapter solves previous year questions to get familiarized with previous year trends and areas of improvement.

5. Mock Tests and analysis: Give mock tests regularly to identify areas of improvement . At initial stage give chapter wise tests and then full and part tests after syllabus completion. Most of the JEE aspirants do not give tests as they fear to score less but remember these tests are to improve and not to judge. Focus on improvement and not marks. Test analysis along with mock tests is also important. It helps to reduce silly mistakes and focus on weak areas.

6. To-Do List: At night analyze your day's work and make a list of work for next day. Make the list flexible and try to stick to it and avoid procrastination . Try to reflect upon the day and write all your mistakes, distractions and achievements at one place , it would help you to reduce distractions and mistakes over the time. And remember not to feel guilty if you are not able to complete the task. Take it as your fuel for next day.

7. Do not run after many books: While preparing you will see many aspirants trying different books but you stick to one book which you teacher suggested and if you are in any renowned coaching then blindly follow their modules. Believe me, it will be difficult to complete one book also.

8. Guidance: Take proper guidance from experienced mentors and teachers you follow. Seek help from teachers for proper planning. Discuss the problems you are facing in preparation with your mentors and find a solution.

9.Exercise and meditation: Many JEE aspirants neglect exercise and meditation while preparing. But exercise and meditation are really important for clear mind and helps in increasing concentration. Daily take out at least 15 minutes for meditation and exercise each.

10. Self-believe: In order to succeed the most important thing is self believe. It you believe in yourself, you can achieve anything.

Hope these strategies help, be consistent and value time. Happy learning!
